When it comes to visiting Melbourne Zoo as a family, timing is important. If you visit on the right days, kids and teenagers can get in free of charge as a result of a Victorian Government initiative – how about that?

I just checked out the exciting offer and have the T&C’s to ensure you and the family are getting the most out of your visit. Though just like with most offers, you may need to do a bit of planning before your visit.

As fantastic as this deal is, I couldn’t help but wonder: what if I wanted to visit the zoo on a day that this offer wasn’t available? Luckily, that’s where the membership program comes in handy.

Melbourne Zoo Membership Program

Aside from Melbourne Zoo’s ‘kids visit free’ offer, families can enjoy unlimited entry into not only the Melbourne Zoo but also the Healesville Sanctuary and the Werribee Open Range Zoo for only $11.50 a month over 12 months.

While checking out this offer, I found that it was worthwhile signing up for this membership if I was intending on visiting the zoo on multiple occasions throughout the year.

Without the membership, adult tickets are $46 a pop – which can hurt if you’re stopping by frequently.

On the other hand, membership only costs $11.50 and includes unlimited entry, express entry every day of the year and discounts at the retail outlets and for animal encounters. Plus, the fact that the membership also goes toward saving wildlife creatures is fantastic.

But wait, it doesn’t stop there! It may be possible to get the best of both of these offers. For example, if you were to visit Melbourne Zoo on the right day with your family, where kids can enjoy free entry, the whole family could get in for only the cost of your membership fees – that’s not a bad deal!

With a bit of prior planning, the whole family can enjoy an exciting day at the Melbourne Zoo without breaking the bank.

Be sure to head over to the Melbourne Zoo website for more information on the membership program or to plan your next family visit.

What animals will you see at the Melbourne Zoo?

There are plenty of creatures great and small held within the Melbourne Zoo that the whole family can marvel at. For example, the Lion Gorge is home to many thrilling animals, such as African wild dogs, lions, crocodiles, snow leopards, tigers, Tasmanian devils, and more. Otherwise, there’s the Trail Of Elephants, featuring otters, tigers, butterflies, orang-utan, and of course, elephants.

As you’re strolling along the Melbourne Zoo’s main trail, you’ll also be able to spot giraffes, zebras, red pandas, baboons, frogs, and tortoises – or head over to the aviary to catch a glimpse of the vibrant birds.

For those eager to get up close with some of these critters, the zoo also has a delightful range of animal encounters for families to choose among. Go behind the scenes with exotic creatures like tigers, gorillas, lemurs, meerkats, giraffes, seals, and more. Otherwise, get a closer look at some familiar Aussie creatures such as kangaroos, koalas, wombats, native birds, and more.

With the impressive range of creatures inside the Melbourne Zoo, there’s never a dull moment as you stroll around the grounds and uncover these animals for yourself.

Why does the zoo cost so much for entry?

Although a visit to the Melbourne Zoo may seem like a pricey trip for the whole family, just think about the wide range of animals cared for by the facility. Think about the detailed shelters created for the big and small creatures and the amazing work that the zoo staff does. On top of this, the Melbourne Zoo also hosts exciting events, overnight camps, up-close animal encounters, and heaps more – making it a truly memorable day trip for the whole family.

As you’re taking all of this into account, you’ll see that an entry fee is a small price to pay to support all the hard work done regularly at the Melbourne Zoo.

Where to eat in the Melbourne Zoo?

Eateries are of abundance inside the Melbourne Zoo, with heaps of options for families to choose among. This includes the Lakeside Cafe, Giraffe Lookout Cafe, Elephant Kiosk, Zoo Bakery, Meerkat Manor Cafe, Macaw Takeaway, Macaw Pizza, and Wild Dogs. With the immense range available, there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy.
