Bundaberg Botanic Gardens new playground
The playground at the gardens is relatively new with lots of cool inclusions! The kids loved the slides, climbing frames and swings! The playground is located at the entrance to the gardens and right next to the carpark, so there’s no reason you shouldn’t visit the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens playground!
Bundaberg Botanic Gardens steam train
As you progress into the park, you will come across the steam train tracks and a little further in is the station! The total trip of the train is about 15 mins, and you’ll get to see everything around the park.

Cafe 1928
The Bundaberg Botanic Cafe, or Bundaberg Cafe 1928, is a wonderful cafe you can visit with your family. Cafe 1928 is located further away from the carpark, but is fairly close to the train station. The food served in the cafe ranges from sandwiches to pies, peas and mash to full meals, and there’s something for the whole family.
Hinkler Hall of Aviation
The Hinkley Hall of Aviation is a great attraction in the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens. If your family is fascinated by flight, we highly recommend you visit the hall.

Visit the Hinkler House
The Hinkler House is a historical house that was originally named ‘Mon Repos’ and was built in 1925 by Bert Hinkler. After a few years the house became the property of the South Hampton City Council. Over May and June 1983, the home was dismantled and transported to Bundaberg, Bert’s home town, and was rebuilt as a Memorial Museum in Hinkler’s honour.
Fairymead House Sugar Museum
The Fairymead House Sugar Museum is another spectacular attraction at the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens for families. Built in 1890, this amazing house includes the Sugar History Museum, exploring the development of the local sugar industry from its earliest days.

Take a walk around the gardens
There is so much to see at the gardens it’s crazy! The lagoons are full of eels, pelicans and turtles that all come up close so you can get some great pictures. Here are some of the other things you can see as you walk around the gardens.
Visit the Japanese Garden
The Japanese Garden are a must see! The traditional Japanese style and culture in these gardens is amazing!
It takes about 1 – 1 and a half hours to take a walk around the whole park. We got to see everything there is to see, with time for a play in the playground, and a picnic.
Have a picnic in the park
We found one of the tables right next to the lake, and the kids loved being so close to the pelicans as we ate! We even saw one land right in front of us.
Bundaberg Botanic Gardens cost
There is no entry fee for Bundaberg Botanic Gardens, but as above, there are charges for some of the exhibits/houses.
