The long summer school holidays are almost upon us and you may be wondering what you’re going to do. Or you’re heading to Brisbane, QLD for the holidays and you’re looking for something a bit out of the ordinary to do.
A day trip can be the perfect solution in both cases. It’s a great opportunity to get out of town, and feel as though you’ve been on a holiday, even if it was only for the day.
If you’re looking for day trips out of Brisbane, an obvious answer is going to the Gold Coast or the Sunshine Coast. An hour’s drive will see you at a surf beach somewhere on the Queensland Coast. Kids will be easily entertained for the day simply with water and sand with no cries of those dreaded 2 words “I’m Bored!”.
If you’re looking for child friendly places to eat on the Gold Coast, you can’t go too far wrong with Dune Cafe at Palm Beach.
Heading not too far north of Brisbane Bribie Island is a popular spot. And if you’re in need of sustenance, it’s a short walk to the Bribie Island Surf Club.
For something a bit more out of the ordinary, and with far less risk of getting stuck in a school holiday traffic jam, you could always try two destinations out of town where you can enjoy the fresh air.
One of our all time favourites is The Bearded Dragon at Tamborine. Head out of the rat race to one of the few remaining pubs that doesn’t have pokies! There’s a huge playground for the kids, and acres of room to run around. A fun place to head for lunch.
Not too far away from The Bearded Dragon is The Historic Rivermill. Grab some lunch at the cafe where there’s loads of room. The kids can feed the animals, and then later walk down to the Coomera River on which the Historic Rivermill sits, and feed the turtles. Another fun place for lunch.
So there’s a few ideas for getting out and about this school holidays. Do you have a favourite place to head on the holidays to keep the kids entertained?
