Where to find the BEST Cat Cafes in Melbourne

Sharing is caring!

We never want to leave the cat cafes in Melbourne, VIC, that we visited – and why would we? They were filled with some of the sweetest animals on the planet, and of course, coffee! Melbourne has two cat cafes on offer for families, and we visited them both to report back to you guys! This helpful article gives you a detailed overview of each cat cafe, including what our family loved the most from our visits!

Fun fact! Cat cafes are proven to help visitor’s mental health! Any excuse to visit a cat cafe if you ask me ?

1. Grounded Paws Cat Cafe

We’ve gone ahead and named the Grounded Paws Cat Cafe the best cat cafe in Melbourne! The Grounded Paws Cat cafe boats an extraordinary Alive in Wonderland theme space for their cats to live! As soon as you enter “The Cat Zoo” as dubbed by our Ms 12, you will be welcomed by some super friendly kittens, cats. All of the cats in the cafe are also available for adoption, however we suggest not informing your kids – BEWARE they will try to take ALL the cats home (ours certainly did)!

You can sit and enjoy a drink while you enjoy the atmosphere, and listen to the noises of purring cats. The actual cafe is decorated year round – and during some of the holiday seasons it even boasts adorable themed décor! We visited in October and got to see some of the super cool Halloween decorations, but we were told there are also Christmas decorations that we might just have to go back for!

All staff here are volunteers, and they were incredibly friendly and helpful. In school holidays, the lounge also holds movie nights, which sounds awesome, and we will absolutely be returning for one of these nights!

Get Out With Kids Tip: You can even book a birthday party at the Grounded Paws Cat Cafe! Head over to their website for more details.

Entry costed $5/pp when we visited, but check their website to see if the prices have changed.

Age Limit: There is no age limit at the Grounded Paws Cat Cafe!

2. Cashmere Cat Cafe

One of the cats at the Cashmere Cat Cafe in Melbourne

While not exactly a cat cafe, as there is no way to purchase food or drink, we still had to include the Cashmere Cat Cafe! Better classified as a cat lounge, we absolutely loved our session here! The lounge has over 25 cats to play with (our favourites were Miso and Cream), but they were all incredibly sweet. We noticed a lot of cats sleeping around the centre, but we didn’t mind just watching them do their thing.

The lounge boats over 160sqm of floor space, proving plenty of room for all the visitors, and the cats. We noticed that there is also a cat only zone for the cats if they need a rest from people (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t sometimes?).

Get Out With Kids Tip: We recommend booking ahead on the Cashmere Cat Cafe website! They usually get very busy (especially on rainy days) and can’t always secure a spot for walk in guests.

The cat cafe is super easy to find, with it’s super cute cat cafe sign hanging outside. There is lots of paid secure parking nearby, as well as street parking. The staff here are also incredibly friendly and accommodating!

Our visit was purrfect at Cashmere Cat Café, and we think yours will be too!

Age Limit: There is no age limit to visit the Cashmere Cat Cafe – but please make sure your kids can follow the rules!
