Mount Archer

Mount Archer Lookout gives amazing views of Rockhampton, QLD and surrounding areas. There is no walking needed as you can drive all the way to the car park which is right next to the lookout, which houses the huge amphitheatre with great views.

Rockhampton is located in central Queensland and is known for being the beef capital of Australia, with livestock production being dominated by beef cattle. On a recent trip to experience the Cape Hillsborough Kangaroos, we stayed overnight and visited Mount Archer National Park. It was here we found this unique Skywalk Treetop boardwalk with a view over Rockhampton.

At 604m above sea level, Mount Archer is the highest peak and provides spectacular views of the city and the surrounding ranges. The park covers 4250ha of open forest and woodland communities dominated by eucalypts, with a large pocket of dry rainforest in the deeply incised Moores Creek valley. The dry rainforest communities are areas of high conservation value and include several plant species with restricted distributions.

If you are keen to do a little bit of easy walking, why not try the Skywalk from the Nurim Circuit. Extending 25 metres off the side of Mount Archer, the 500-metre flat boardwalk offers spectacular views of the city and the mighty Fitzroy River.

You can get to Mt Archer National Park and the Skywalk within 20 mins of driving from Rockhampton central. Just follow Pilbeam Drive all the way until you get to the top of Mt Archer. The easiest and quickest way to get there is with your own transport. There are several walks available, but the Skywalk is on the Nurim Walk.
